Face or cross
Hi!
Two posts before, I showed you an activity to work with statistic.
Today I want to show you another one to work with this term.
In this case, we are going to work with coins.
Two posts before, I showed you an activity to work with statistic.
Today I want to show you another one to work with this term.
In this case, we are going to work with coins.
The objective of the activity is to work on the concept of probability, possible cases and favorable cases in a playful, entertaining way and using manipulative auxiliary material as support.
The class is divided into groups of four to six depending on the number of coins we have and the number of students in the class and the tables are organized so that they can work together comfortably.
Whiteboards, markers and the same number of coins are distributed to all groups. For example: one for € 2, two for € 1, three for € 0.50, four for € 0.20, five for € 0.10, six for € 0.05, seven for € 0.02 and eight for € 0.05. € 0.01. The teacher asks questions and gives them time to play, investigate, test, discuss and reach a conclusion, then rotate the explanations by group, writing the answer on the board and telling the rest of the class why and how they have come to the conclusion they have scored.
It starts with simple questions, working with a coin such as: What is the probability of getting a face in a coin?
Then they get a little complicated with questions like:
What is the probability of taking out a € 2 coin?
What is the probability of taking a coin of € 0.10?
What is the probability of taking out a coin greater than € 0.50?
What is the probability of getting an even coin?
And if the class responds and they understand it well, questions of the type will be asked:
Assuming that the first coin we take is € 1, what is the probability of catching
other than € 1?
If we take two coins, what is the probability of obtaining two faces?
Materials: Plastic or real coins, small whiteboards and marker pens for blackboards
Evaluation:
Direct observation. By rotating the participants within each group to perform the explanations, it is clear that they understand it. In addition while they are thinking and playing the teacher will go through the tables to hear their comments and observe the participation of each student.
